Hiking in the Zillertal

Wonderful hikes in Mayrhofen and the surrounding area

32 kilometres of well-maintained trails, impressive elevation gains and colourful landscapes make hiking in Mayrhofen a real experience – in both summer and autumn. It is particularly during the golden season that the Zillertal reveals its tranquil, particularly striking side. Even for the legendary Zillertal mountaineer Peter Habeler, the region’s peaks are among the most beautiful in the world. Our motto: “Everything can be climbed, but nothing has to be.”

Bergmähderweg

The themed hiking trail through the Zillergrund combines exercise with insights into the Alps. An easy hike starting from Mayrhofen, leading across alpine meadows to the Kolmhaus. In high summer, you can experience the ancient tradition of haymaking here – whilst in autumn, quiet paths and crisp air beckon. A particular highlight: Mario Botta’s architecturally striking Garnet Chapel at the Penkenjoch.
Tip: The view from the Kolmhaus is best enjoyed with a glass of fresh buttermilk.

Always white 3000s in the Zillertal

  • Hochfeiler – 3509 metres
  • Großer Möseler – 3480 metres
  • Schwarzenstein – 3369 metres
  • Großer Löffler – 3378 metres

These four three-thousand-metre peaks in the south of the Zillertal valley can only be reached on foot. Due to rapidly changing weather conditions in the mountains and the high demands on stamina and fitness at an altitude of 3,000 metres, we recommend undertaking these tours with a mountain guide. We are happy to help you organise mountain tours around the Zillertal valley.
