Hiking in the Zillertal
Bergmähderweg
Hiking and learning about alpine life is possible on the Bergmähderweg themed hiking trail. An easy hike through the Zillergrund valley, across flowering alpine meadows to the Kolmhaus. (Our tip: the beautiful view from the Kolmhaus can be enjoyed especially well with a glass of fresh buttermilk on the sun terrace.) In midsummer, you can get a live insight into the ancient tradition of ‘Bergmahd’, i.e. mowing with a scythe. A special highlight on this hike in Mayrhofen: on a rocky outcrop east of the reservoir lake at Penkenjoch, Swiss star architect Mario Botta created the iconic Granatkapelle chapel at 2,087 metres, inspired by the shape of a cut gemstone – a real Alpine jewel.

- Hochfeiler – 3509 metres

- Schwarzenstein – 3369 metres
- Großer Löffler – 3378 metres
These four three-thousand-metre peaks in the south of the Zillertal valley can only be reached on foot.
