IN LOVE WITH THE ZILLERTAL ALPS
Mayrhofen in the Zillertal – A place steeped in tradition
Once upon a time, many centuries ago in the Zillertal, in the County of Tyrol, there was a beautiful place that had not yet been given a name. Where the four ancient side valleys of Zemmtal, Stilluptal, Zillergrund and Tuxertal meet, the massive mountain ridges of the Alps spread out to form a magnificent basin. Many a wanderer crossing the Alps from north to south must have been given pause here to imagine what a wonderful place this would be to settle down.
Today, the village of Mayrhofen crowns this very spot, 633 metres above sea level, in the midst of the mountains. The stories of Zillertal have been shaped over generations – a living history embodied by the steam-powered Zillertalbahn railway, which has guided visitors from near and far through this picturesque valley since the late 1860s. An unforgettable holiday with stories steeped in tradition and a unique original charm – thriving throughout the centuries amidst the Zillertal Alps, in the heart of Mayrhofen and, of course at the ZILLERTALERHOF.
