Winter has come at last! Perfectly-prepared slopes, diverse tobogganing routes, picturesque cross-country skiing trails, magical winter markets and crackling camp fires, romantic snowshoe hikes through sparkling winter landscapes – and to top it off, seasonal cheer and treats, age-old customs and cherished traditions. Winter in the Mayrhofen region has many different faces and includes two skiing regions right on our doorstep – Leisure Mountain AHORN (vast and laid-back) and the Action Mountain PENKEN (with Harakiri slope and a fun park). But even off the slopes, the Zillertal has many attractions in store for you – from traditional Christmas markets to romantic sleigh rides.

Mayrhofen: A skiing paradise with guaranteed snow

First a hearty alpine breakfast, then out of the house and onto the snow! Whether you’re freeriding the finest powder or skiing down freshly-prepared pistes – the Zillertal offers the perfect challenge for everyone - on over 530 kilometres of slopes, with 180 lifts, at an altitude with guaranteed snow. The Zillertal Alps around Mayrhofen comprise four large skiing regions, with one Zillertal Superskipass covering them all: An all-inclusive ticket for the ski regions Hochzillertal-Hochfügen-Spieljoch, the Zillertal Arena, the Mayrhofen cable cars and the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000. The Superskispass doesn’t just give you access to all the lifts, it’s your ticket to a full-on, relaxed alpine sport experience in the Zillertal. The fully featured wellness programme at our HOF SPA helps to relax after a long day on the slopes.

Winter holidays beyond the slopes

The Zillertal promises an unforgettable winter holiday, even offside the slopes: With over 80 kilometres of the perfectly cleared winter hiking trails, ice skating and ice hockey, curling, the Christmas markets in Mayrhofen and the nearby villages, the Zillertal thermal baths or the imposing ice cave at the Hintertux Glacier – 25 metres below the ski slope. The Krampuslauf or Perchtenlauf processions and the traditional door-to-door carol-singing embody the deeply rooted wintertime customs of the Zillertal to experience first-hand. Or if you’re more in the mood for something peaceful, prepare to be enchanted by the illuminated ice sculptures in the Zillergrund gorge during the “Silent Night” fairy tale hike. Enjoy vast cross-country skiing routes through the snow-covered Alps or try out the traditional Tyrolean sport of tobogganing. Along the way, rustic Alpine huts (such as the Ahornhütte, Granatalm, Stieralm or Unterbergalm) invite guests to stop for a break and some refreshments with their seasonal treats and Zillertal winter specialities.
